Italy-based Benetton Group has announced its decision to stop using angora wool in all its collections sold around the world.

“In line with United Colors of Benetton’s long-standing commitment to social issues - including animal welfare - we have already stopped the use of angora in our production,” the Group said in a media statement.

“Once current inventory is sold, no more angora products will be available in the stores,” the statement added.

“Our garments are manufactured with the utmost respect for the welfare of nature, people and animals. Regarding angora wool in particular, and as per our code of conduct, we have always followed particularly stringent guidelines to guarantee the use of only ethically-sourced materials,” the Group said.

Companies like M&S and Esprit have already stopped selling products containing angora wool. (RKS)
