Lion Apparel German Partnership wins Award of Distinction

Dayton based global company Lion Apparel Deutschland, Helmann Worldwide Logistics, and Bundeswehr Bekleidungsgesellschaft mbH was awarded the 2005 Private Public Partnerships Innovation Award. It received this distinction on May 31, 2005 during the "Efficient State" conference held in Berlin at the Borough of Schoenberg City Hall.

A total of 19 projects from sectors carrying out public services - infrastructure, civil engineering, education, science, health, and IT, among others -were entered as possible recipients of the award.

"Who would ever have thought that Federal Armed Forces uniforms, of all things, would develop into such a successful project?" With this rhetorical question, Dr. Hans-Jochen Henke, secretary general of the economic council for the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) presented the award to the management of the Federal Armed Forces Clothing Corporation (LHBw).

"The LHBw," he said, "was a model project representing the successful cooperation between government and business. With the responsibility of supplying apparel to soldiers and civil employees, this corporation ensured 'freedom of movement' for the Federal Armed Forces in the truest sense of the phrase."

A Model of Efficiency and Innovation
The award, offered by the "Behrden Spiegel" (a publication serving the German public sector) and the Federal Public Private Partnership Association (BPPP), was bestowed upon the LHBw for its efficiency as a private supplier for the Federal Armed Forces. The expert jury, consisting of qualified experts in fields ranging from management, business, organizations, politics and science, not only evaluated efficiency and cost reduction successes but also project innovation and transferability.
