Craft Village promotes rare crafts on verge of extinction

Delhi-based Craft Village has initiated efforts to preserve ten rare crafts on the verge of extinction: Pallavastone, Mahabalipuram; Pinjrakari (jaali), Srinagar; Kutch embroidery, Bhuj; Phad painting, Shahpura; calligraphy weaving, Srinagar; Rogan, Nirona; Bidri artwork, Bidar; Kharad craft, Kukma; Tangaliya weaving, Surendranagar; and the Chamba rumaal.

The centre promoting rare and exclusive crafts launched the effort at the India Craft Week organised last December, its co-founder Somesh Singh told Fibre2Fashion in an interview. (DS)
