Amazon India has joined hands with crowd-funding company Ketto in Mumbai to help its sellers raise funds for business expansion, product development and medical assistance. It will allow its sellers, as part of ‘Amazon Wings’ programme, to use Ketto’s platform and raise small ticket funds starting from ₹50,000 at a subsidised fee for initiating fundraisers.

The launch of the ‘Amazon Wings’ program will address the problem of funds for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country that is one of the major barriers for business growth and innovation, said Gopal Pillai, vice president, seller services, Amazon India.

Under the initiative, Amazon will solicit interest from sellers to apply to Ketto for participation in the program. The applications will then be shortlisted by Ketto on the basis of the seller story, the purpose of the fundraiser and the goal amount, according to Indian media reports.

After shortlisting, a Ketto team will guide the sellers from the ideation stage to the final launch of the campaign. Following the launch, the shortlisted sellers will be able to promote it in their social circle.

After India implemented the foreign direct investment guidelines in e-commerce, Amazon India is trying to boost its sales from independent sellers. To attract more sellers, it reduced its commission charges and also started a rating-based commission system for fashion vendors.

The best performers will pay around 35 per cent less commission as compared to what they were paying before. (DS)
