Bangladesh President urges Qatar to invest more in SEZs

He emphasised Bangladesh’s openness to investments across various sectors.

The President highlighted Qatar’s significance as a development partner in the Gulf region and expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral cooperation through the signing of five agreements and five MoUs between the two countries.

He mentioned Bangladesh’s establishment of 100 SEZs for foreign investment and outlined sectors offering significant incentives and support for Qatari investors, including petrochemicals, energy, machinery, IT, electronics, ceramics, agribusiness, and food processing.

Grateful for Qatar’s employment opportunities for around 3.75 lakh Bangladeshis, the President highlighted their contributions to the socio-economic development of both the countries even as he urged Qatar to recruit more young, skilled, and semi-skilled workforce, IT experts, and professional technicians from Bangladesh.

Additionally, he thanked Qatar for supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bangladesh and sought long-term energy assistance while stressing the importance of enhancing trade and business potentials.

Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani on his part lauded Bangladesh’s socio-economic development under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership and assured continued assistance.

He stressed the significance of the agreements and MoUs signed between Qatar and Bangladesh in enhancing bilateral and multilateral relations.

Both leaders exchanged greetings and expressed hope that the visit would further strengthen the multifaceted partnership between Bangladesh and Qatar. Foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid, along with other officials, were present during the meeting.
