In the first three months of 2017, China’s total cotton imports stand at 375,000 tons, showing an increase of 78.9 per cent year-on-year.
In the first seven months of the Chinese cotton marketing season beginning September 1, 2016, China has imported a total of 674,200 tons, which is an increase of 17.3 per cent.
In terms of the country of origin, the United States continued to rank first, accounting for more than 70 per cent of cotton imported by China. India ranked second.
Meanwhile, China’s cotton yarn imports stood at 1,825 tons in March, up 5.18 per cent month-on-month, but down 4.24 per cent year-on-year. In January-March 2017, China’s total imports of cotton yarn increased by 13.3 per cent to 530,200 tons. In the first seven months of the Chinese cotton season, total cotton yarn imports are slightly down by 0.03 per cent to 120.55 million tons. (RKS)
