Egypt will be exporting 2 million quintals of cotton to Japan, China, and India, Ayman Farid Abul Hadid, Egypt's Agriculture Minister has said.
Under the export deal, the country is expected to sell cotton at a price of LE1200 per quintal, the Minister added.
He further said that cotton acreage has gone up to 525,000 acres in the current season, as against cotton sown in 371,000 acres last year, an increase of more than 41 percent.
The Minister explained that extra long staple cotton is exported by Egypt, while the domestic units in the country use the medium and long staple cotton, which is grown in Upper Egypt. He also clarified that Egypt may not consider growing short staple cotton.
