Qinghai carpet fair evokes good response

Over 4,000 businessmen from both within China and outside participated in the annual Qinghai International Carpet Exhibition, held in Xining.
Xining is the capital of Qinghai province in Northwest China, and is recognized as a hub of global Tibetan carpet industry.
Apart from locals, business persons from 34 countries and regions from across the globe attended the four-day expo which concluded a few days ago. Leading handmade carpet manufacturing countries like Pakistan, Iran, India, Turkey and Nepal also participated to promote and market their goods.
Besides carpet, various items including raw and allied materials related to carpet industry were displayed at the expo, which facilitated spot transactions.
Trade volume at the expo has seen a considerable rise from around eight million US dollars when it was first organized in 2004 to nearly US$ 58.6 million at the last year's expo.
The history of carpet industry in Tibet is around 2,000 years old. Next to Nepal, China is the second biggest exporter of Tibetan carpet, globally.
