Global production of textile fibres reached 73.85 million tons in 2009, of which man-made fibres accounted for 46.25 million tons. The rest 27.6 million tons was made up by natural fibres like lint, net hair, lean linen, raw silk, etc.
Of which, China produced 7.29 million tons of natural fibres, accounting for 36 percent of global natural fibers output and 26.15 million tons of man-made fibre, accounting for about 56 percent of global output.
This means that China has become the world's superpower in production of textile fibres over the last few years. In particular, China possesses large proportion in world's production of chemical fibre, regenerated fibre and synthetic fibre.
