Simultaneously visionary and pragmatic – the textil+mode Innovation Award 2011 in the special 'Sustainable Design' category goes to Charlotte Ehrlicher and Marie Federlin for the extremely sustainable concept of their 'egogamie' collection.

This special award was given for the first time by Messe Frankfurt and the textil+mode federation on 6 July, during the Fashion Week in Berlin.

The textil+mode Innovation Award 2011 honoured young designers in the 'Textile Design', 'Fashion Design' and 'Technical Textiles' categories. Works from all three categories that meet the demands of sustainability were entered for the special 'Sustainable Design' award.

In a selection procedure, a jury of experts paid particular attention to the materials, manufacturing processes, social aspects, recyclability and disposal.

With their 'egogamie' collection, the winners, Charlotte Ehrlicher and Marie Federlin, succeeded in producing a collection of garments meeting the highest design standards whereby all textile-processing stages and the materials themselves are ecologically certified.

Attention ignites aesthetic driving forces:
During the awards ceremony in the Atrium of the Deutsche Bank in Berlin on 6 July 2011, Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, praised the concept of the two award winners: “Sustainability should not leave a bulky mark on the outfits of the future. On the contrary, the increased attention ignites aesthetic driving forces. In other words, attention prompts designers to continuously seek new solutions and to branch out in innovative directions.”

International trade visitors will be able see the collection during the Ethical Fashion Show in Paris from 1 to 4 September 2011.

Messe Frankfurt banks on sustainability:
Ecologically and socially-responsible production has been playing an increasingly important role at the events of Messe Frankfurt for many years. “We have further expanded our commitment to sustainability with the textil+mode Innovation Award and the special 'Sustainable Design' category”, says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President, Textiles & Textile Technologies, of Messe Frankfurt.

Today, the portfolio of the world's biggest organiser of textile fairs includes two future-oriented platforms for sustainable fashions: the Ethical Fashion Show in Paris (1 to 4 September 2011) and the GREEN showroom in Berlin (6 to 8 July 2011). Additionally, Messe Frankfurt promotes sustainable textile production with seminars, conferences and publications at the events it organises, such as Interstoff Asia Essential in Hong Kong, Texworld in Paris and New York, and Heimtextil in Frankfurt am Main.
