Manas Bhunia, Textiles and Small Scale Industry Minister of West Bengal, has said that a committee would be constituted shortly for devising a policy for textile industry in the State.
The Minister said that the new committee would take care of the State's textile industry and also devise a policy which has not been there till now.
He added that his Ministry would soon present a policy paper aimed at boosting the State's powerloom and handloom industry.
Further, the Minister called upon the industry to attach due importance to the garment and hosiery industry due to their immense growth potential.
He said that he would raise the issue of credit availability for micro, small and medium level industries with banks and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
The Minister candidly said since land is a very sticky issue in the State, fragmented holdings would deter the establishment of big industries. Hence, he called for the establishment of small and medium industries in the State.
