Pakistan Agriculture Scientists Association (PASA) has appealed to the government to fix the support price of the new cotton crop at Rs 6,500 per 40 kg.
Mr Jamshed Cheema, President - PASA said that, considering the current prices of cotton, thousands of farmers would be deeply affected if the support price was not fixed at Rs 6,500 per 40 kg.
He said that if farmers had to sell their crop at the current prevailing prices, they would not be able to even recover the cost.
Cost of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and labour had spiraled in recent years and if farmers did not receive remunerative prices, they would turn away from sowing cotton in coming years, he added.
