In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Textiles Minister Anand Sharma has revealed that 55 proposals have been received by the Government for setting up new integrated textile parks across the country.

The Minister stated that under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), the Government has made a provision for rupees four billion in the budget for establishing new textile parks.

Presently, 40 such textile parks exist in different States like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat.

The Minister said that SITP is steered by demand and the quantum of investment is decided by the investors depending on the commercial feasibility.

Under the Scheme, the Government bears 40 percent of the cost towards infrastructure and common amenities, subject to an upper limit of Rs. 400 million.

The Government has approved proposals for setting up two silk parks - Kanchipuram AACM Handloom Silk Park and Doddabalapur Integrated Textile Park - with an aim to boost special yarn and silk production, the Minister said.
