Iran exported hand-woven carpet worth US$ 138 million during the initial four months of the current Iranian calendar year that started on March 21.
The country, which is the leading exporter of carpets across the globe, mainly shipped its handmade Persian carpets to Germany and the United Arab Emirates. Canada, Brazil, Japan, Lebanon, Sweden and Italy were the other major destinations of carpets from Iran.
During the last Iranian calendar year, the country exported handmade carpets worth US$ 556 million, registering a year-on-year rise of 12 percent. In terms of weight, there was a four percent rise in exports over the previous year.
Iran is striving to further increase its share in the world markets by offering carpets at relatively lower rates than India, Pakistan and China, and by fine-tuning the designs and colours of the carpets in accordance with the international demand.
