Peru will be strengthening the production chain of its alpaca fibre. For the purpose, the National Alpaca Committee (Conalpaca) will set up regional working groups, Julio Guzman, Deputy Minister of SME and Industry has announced.
The regional working groups will consist of representatives from the public and private companies, alpaca producers' associations, the Ministry of SME and Industry, respective regional government and civil associations.
The first regional working group of Conalpaca has been established in the Andean city of Cusco.
Conalpaca was established in 2006 to identify the problems facing the alpaca textile sector and suggest suitable solutions, but has yielded no favourable outcome so far.
The setting up of working groups in various regions of Peru is expected to benefit all the stakeholders, including alpaca growing farmers, textile manufacturers and traders in this sector.
Cusco, Pasco, Puno, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Apurimac, Junin, Moquegua, Huancavelica and Tacna are the alpaca fibre producing regions of Peru.
