The Towel Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (TMA) has criticised the Ministry of Textile Industry for neglecting the association during a recent meeting with representatives of all textile associations held in Islamabad.

Strongly condemning such omission from the side of the Ministry, TMA Chairman Feroze Alam Lari said the towel industry in Pakistan happens to be an over one billion USD export-oriented industry, and the Government agencies ought to recognize it.

The agenda of the meeting was to review the textile performance for July-October 2011-2012, to deliberate on proposal of granting MFN status to India and to brief the industry stakeholders on textile policy initiatives and disbursements.

The TMA Chief also regretted that the association has been overlooked in yet another meeting of National Assembly's Standing Committee on Port and Shipping slated to take place on December 8.

He said he was surprised how TMA can be overlooked when the Directorate of Trade Organisations (DTO) itself prepared the list of associations.

Mr. Lari said it was unfortunate that the association is being kept away from providing the input of the vital sector.

He demanded that the December 8 meeting be rescheduled at a later date and agenda of the meeting should be circulated to enable the TMA to share its view on various matters prior to the finalisation of the law.
