Iran's handwoven carpet exports grow

Exports of handwoven carpets from Iran grew to US$ 380 million during the initial three quarters of the current Iranian calendar year that began on March 21, 2011.
These carpets weighed 4,800 tons, according to figures released by Iran's National Carpet Centre.
The handmade carpets were mainly exported to Germany and the United Arab Emirates.
Lebanon, Japan and Qatar were other major destinations for Persian carpets during the nine month period.
The export figures of Iranian handwoven carpets so far indicate that the country is on course to meet its target of US$ 600 million set for the current calendar year.
In the previous calendar year, Iran exported US$ 556 million worth of handwoven carpets, showing a rise of 12 percent year-on-year. During the year, exports of handmade carpets rose 4 percent year-on-year in terms of weight.
