Pollution Board razes textile dyeing units in Erode

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) officials have identified twenty one unauthorized textile dyeing and processing units in Erode district of the state that have been functioning without effluent treatment plants and the untreated waste water was being discharged in the water sources.

Speaking to fibre2fashion, Mr. P Asokan, District Environmental Engineer, TNPCB, said, “Actually, we have started the operation and we have totally demolished some textile dyeing units as per the Hon’ble High Court’s direction. The district co-ordination committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the district collector to execute the High Court’s order.”

Briefing further, he says, “Recently, we identified 21 unauthorized textile dyeing units in the district, some of which have been removed yesterday and the remaining are being demolished today. Some of these units, on hearing about the demolition, themselves removed the machinery and vacated the premises.”

“This is an ongoing operation and over the last three months, we have removed about 74 unauthorized textile dyeing units in the district,” he confirms.
