The Ministry intends to begin production of new innovative fabrics and their subsequent stitching into garments, this year itself. Some new fabrics will be initially produced on trial basis in limited quantities.

The development of new fabrics would be mainly based on research conducted by the Institute of Chemistry of Solutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ivanovo State University of Chemical Technology.

Several well-known Russian textile and apparel manufacturers, including Change Trading House, Russ factory, Jeanne factory and JSC Frant, have already shown avid interest to participate in the project for production of innovative fabrics and new clothing.

Explaining a new type of fabric that his company likes to produce under the project, Victor Azarenkov, Commercial Director of Frant, said it will be a light half-woolen fabric, which neither shrinks nor gets wrinkled, while having a minimum durability of two years.

The new garments, based on innovative fabrics, will be able to withstand competition from imported clothing and will likely bring huge profits to its manufacturers, according to industry analysts.

The Russian Government has no plans to give subsidies for installation of latest machinery to textile and apparel manufacturers, although the large-scale production of newer fabrics, as envisaged by the Ministry, cannot be carried out without modernization of production facilities in the country.

However, the Government may provide subsidy in interest rates on loans taken for purchase of raw materials and for modernization of machinery.
