China's cotton yarn trade surges in June

The imports and exports of Chinese cotton yarn increased in the month of June 2012 on a year-on-year basis, but declined on a month-on-month basis.
 
During the month, China imported 108,300 tons of cotton yarn, showing an increase of 120.15 percent year-on-year, but a decline of 13.33 percent from the previous month, according to the data released by the General Administration of Customs.
 
China exported 38,700 tons of cotton yarn during the period, posting a rise of 33.51 percent year-on-year, but a decrease of 15.03 percent compared to May 2012.
 
Thus, China’s cotton yarn trade resulted in a net import of 69,600 tons in June, which is an increase of 244.46 percent year-on-year, but a dip of 12.35 percent month-on-month.
 
From September 2011 to June 2012, China’s overall cotton yarn imports stood at 1.025 million tons, registering a year-on-year increase of 30.88 percent. Its overall cotton yarn exports were 324,300 tons, down 11.90 percent year-on-year.
 
During the first half of 2012, China imported 661,300 tons of cotton yarn, a rise of 63.24 percent year-on-year, while the country exported 225,500 tons of cotton yarn, a drop of 2.97 percent year-on-year.
