Demand of textiles & garments slows down in China

The domestic demand for Chinese textiles and apparels has slowed down this year, compared to last year’s demand, according to the China Textile Industry Association.

The Association attributes the slowdown in demand to slackening of China’s economy.

However, the demand would gradually increase, according to Sun Huaibin, Spokesman of the Association. But, the negative growth trend of China’s textile sector is not likely to reverse soon, because the domestic and international cotton price trend is not yet clear, he adds.

In 2012, the price of cotton in China has been more than those existing in international markets. In mid-August, the difference between cotton prices in domestic and global markets was over 5000 yuan/ton.

The price difference had increased by 67 percent since the beginning of the year, which has severely affected the competitiveness of textile industries in China.
