Chinese benzene market witnesses tight supply

Sep '12
There is tight supply in China’s domestic benzene market due to some plants shutting down their operations, which, in turn, is leading to a rise in prices.

Market transactions for benzene are in the range of 10,000-10,100 Yuan/ton in East China and North China, while the transactions are in the range of 9,650-9,800 Yuan/ton in South China.

Meanwhile, the ex-factory price of benzene at East China branch of Sinopec is 9,800 Yuan/ton. There is less inventory pressure and sales are stable.

The demand for benzene is expected to increase significantly as raw material inventory of downstream manufacturers has gradually decreased.

Hence, in near future, domestic benzene market in China is likely to operate at higher level, with price variations being in a narrow range.
