Phase one of Iran’s West Ethylene Pipeline, which stretches from Assalouyeh in the south to Kermanshah in the west, has been commissioned, Iran’s news agency IRNA reported.

After the official inaugural ceremony, Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, Engineering Affairs Manager of the pipeline, said the transfer of ethylene produced at Kavian Petrochemical plant through the pipeline started some time earlier and the transferring process has been satisfactory.

The official added that the ethylene sent through the 1,200 km long pipeline has reached Arvand Petrochemical plant for further processing. He said the diameter of the installed pipeline is in the range of 8 to 24 inches.

The pipeline project is expected to play an important part in establishment of new petrochemical industries or shifting of existing industries from southern part of Iran to western part of the country.

The main purpose of the pipeline, which would have eight pressure boosting stations, is to transfer ethylene from Assalouyeh-based Pars Special Economic Energy Zone to 13 petrochemical complexes in western region of the country.

During last Iranian calendar year that concluded on March 19 this year, Iran shipped 18.2 million tons of polymer and petrochemical products worth around US$ 14.2 billion to more than 60 countries.
