Iran is planning to export US$ 13 billion worth of petrochemical products in the current Iranian calendar year that began on March 21, 2013, the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has said.

Iran’s petrochemical exports during the ongoing year are projected to touch 17.4 million tons, NPC managing director Abdolhossein Bayat said, Tehran Times reported quoting Mehr News Agency.

At present, more than 40,000 petrochemical units are in operation across Iran, Mr. Bayat said.

A week earlier, NPC planning manager Ramezan Oladi said that Iranian petrochemical complexes produced around 40 million tons of petrochemicals during last Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2013, according to FARS News Agency. Of the total produce, about 15.8 million tons of petrochemicals valued at around US$ 11.2 billion were exported.

Earlier this month, Mr. Bayat, who is also Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister, said Iran’s petrochemical production capacity, which grew by 13.2 percent during last year to 60 million tons, is expected to reach about 100 million tons by 2015.

Last year, Iran exported its petrochemical products to around 60 countries with Central Asia, Africa, Far East and Southeast Asia being its key export destinations.
