Cotton 'Plant X' fights against pests: Australian research

A recent research on development of pesticide conducted by Australia-based Growth Agriculture Pty Ltd to protect cotton plants has achieved positive results for a single cotton plant, ‘Plant X’.
Andrew Vesey of Growth Agriculture said that during the research, ‘Plant X’ had been treated with the pesticide and it was the only plant that survived the test, according to a report by abc.net.
Mr. Vesey said the research conducted during this year’s cotton season was not completely successful due to lack of enough number of pests.
He hoped that by the next cotton season there will be sufficient quantity of pesticide for commercial trial use. Further, the favorable characteristics shown by Plant X can be developed in other plants as well.
The research was initiated by Australia-based Cotton-Co-operative Research Centre in 2007 and was later taken up by the Growth Agriculture Pty Ltd.
