The recently concluded 2013 China International Silk Forum in Hangzhou, the capital and largest city of Zhejiang Province in Eastern China., discussed the developments in the world silk industry and the future of the silk industry.

The meeting saw participation of representatives from Italy, India, Brazil, France, Japan, Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom and other countries.

Silk is a symbol of Chinese history and culture, going back to one thousand years. Hangzhou’s silk story, however, dates back to 4,700 years as unearthed Liangzhu silk fabric reveals.

In recent years, Hangzhou has ranked the first place in silk merchandize and silk garment exports, and Hangzhou enterprises are included in the list of top ten Chinese silk enterprises.

Under the new situation, the annual meeting of China International Silk Fair has become a world event for exchange of views on silk industry.

In recent years, silk production, trade and consumption patterns are gradually changing, impacted by the global economic slowdown, and hence, the forum discussed how to develop the world’s silk industry, and the urgent need to strengthen cooperation and work together to promote sustained and healthy development of the world silk industry.

Improving product quality would also play a positive role in effectively promoting development of the silk industry, Giuseppe Bianchi of the Italian Silk Association said at the forum.
