Polimoda set to host a series of conferences in Florence

Polimoda, the prestigious Italian fashion school, is set to host a series of conferences on topics related to the culture of fashion and textiles in the historical city of Florence.

Titled as Polimoda Day, the event will hold a number of meetings that would involve exchange of talks and ideas between prominent fashion-centric professionals, companies and Polimoda teachers and students.

Due to be held at the historical mansion Villa Favard, Florence, the first meeting, dubbed as Textile Day: il tessuto, dalla sua tradizione fino alle novità della produzione attuale, meaning the world of textiles from tradition through to the latest news on current production, is scheduled to take place on November 28, 2013.

Professor Paolo Peri, a lecturer in Polimoda, will present his book entitled ‘Tessuti egiziani dall’età ellenistica al medioevo nelle raccolte del Castello Sforzesco di Milano’ at the meeting. Released by Settegiorni Publisher, the book records the history of textiles, with the help of archaeological findings of Islamic, Coptic and pre-Columbian origins, since the 14th century to the first quarter of the 20th century.

The meeting will also include a talk from Bradley Quinn, the English critic and author of the book Fashion Futures (published in 2012 by Merrer Publishers). The book charts the achievements of designers in terms of new innovative fabrics made from latest technologies.

Staying true to the textile theme of the event, an installation will be set up by Sandro Ciardi, the President of Prato district’s textile consortium Pratotrade, with the support of Emmetex Group, at the grand staircase of Villa Favard.

Also, the event will inaugurate Polimoda Wall, which will feature a graphical timeline with pictures and books, narrating the evolution of fabric from Palaeolithic age to the current times.
