Kazakhstan has 707 enterprises operating in light industry

As of January 1, 2013, the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan has 707 enterprises operating in the light industry (textiles and clothing industries), announced the chairman of the Industry Committee of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (COMPROM) Baktybai Kasymbekov, at the recently held roundtable conference on the development of textile cluster in the city of Ontustyk.
 
According to a statement issued by COMPROM, at the roundtable conference, Mr. Kasymbekov explained that the structure of the light industry of Kazakhstan is divided in a way that 50 percent concentrates on production of textiles and the rest 50 percent for the production of clothing, leather and other products.
 
The COMPROM chairman said the textile industry of the country has great potential for successful development with lower rates of production costs and proximity to raw materials and potential market products.
 
At the conference, Mr. Kasymbekov said the implementation of the Kazakhstan state program of forced industrial-innovative development of the country and the light industry development program for 2010-2014, would analyze the issues prevailing in the textiles sector, in order to identify priorities and implement mechanisms for the further development of the industry, including to ensure the economic and strategic security, as well as full employment.
 
According to the COMPROM chairman, the main objective of the program is to meet the domestic demand for light industry products through the processing of raw materials, the production of high value-added goods and the prospect of its entry into foreign markets, and to ensure full employment.
 
The round-table conference, held under the theme ‘Prospects for the development of textile cluster in Special Economic Zones (SEZs)’ in the Customs Union, was organized with the intention of discussing the current situation of the SEZs in the country, international mechanisms for creating textile clusters, the main difficulties in implementing the concept of formation of regional clusters of textile and conditions for the successful development of the SEZs.
 
The event saw participation from representatives of government agencies, financial and investment companies, and experts from foreign companies interested in the development of the textile industry in the Customs Union, presently comprising of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia.
