Tamil Nadu's Padalur to be new site for textile park

The new textile park proposed to be established in the Perambalur district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, will now be set up in the Padalur village of the district instead of Eraiyur village, as the Padalur village panchayat has identified land for the project, reports The Hindu.

The Padalur village panchayat identified a 110-acre site for the project, and has adopted a resolution to handover the land for the project.

Last year, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalitha had announced the setting up of the textile park in Perambalur district and about 340 acres of land at Ezhil Nagar near Eraiyur Cooperative Sugar Mill was identified for the construction of the textile park.

However, the project suffered a setback due to opposition from the Narikoravas community who were residing in the area since a long time, following which the district administration started looking for an alternative site with close proximity to the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway, as the textile park would be an export-oriented facility.

The establishment of the textile park in Perambalur district forms part of the 343 measures announced by state Chief Minister during the three-day conference of district collectors and police officers in Chennai in 2012, aimed at the development of the state.
