Niger govt signs agreement to boost cotton production

The Government of Niger, a land-locked country in western Africa, has signed an agreement with Geocoton, an international agribusiness group, to boost cotton production in Dosso, located about 140 km east of the capital Niamey, the Ministry of Agriculture has announced, reports Prensa Latina.
 
Nigerien Minister of State for the Interior Abdou Labo and Karim Talb, the representative of Geocoton group, signed the agreement that aims to stimulate economic growth in the Dosso region by generating revenue and creating about 100 jobs.
 
As per the agreement, Geocoton, would finance Nigerien cotton farmers and would also purchase cotton produced by them.
 
Several Nigerien cotton growers are expected to benefit from the agreement, according to the Ministry.
