Iwona Gocek, from Sonia Textile, Poland, explained: “As always this fair is very busy but well organised. After meeting new suppliers here, I can easily go to the factories close by and work out more of the details.”

Zaki Ali, Design Director & Managing Partner of Zaki Designs, Dubai, was attending his seventh Intertextile fair, and agreed that Shanghai’s proximity to nearby textile factories was more convenient for buyers. He also highlighted another of the city’s advantages. “Shanghai is an excellent platform. You get to see a lot of new innovative ideas here, because if the trends are emerging in Europe, then they’ve already started manufacturing them here in China.”

Domestic exhibitors meanwhile agreed the move to Shanghai was the right thing to do. “The quality of domestic exhibitors here is better because more of them are focused on exports to Europe, the US and Japan,” explained Leo Chan, Deputy Director of Sales & Marketing, Huafu Top Dyed Melange Yarn Co Ltd.

“As for buyers, the international ratio is higher at this fair, with more from Europe, the US, Japan and elsewhere. We also met with big brands such as H&M, Decathlon and Metersbonwe, so we are very satisfied with the fair in Shanghai this year.”

Exhibitors note continued demand for premium products
With mixed economic news coming out of China over the last year, exhibitors were pleased to discover that the demand for quality overseas products had not diminished. “We are focused on the mid-high and high-end markets in China and sales are growing fast here. There is strong demand still in China, and the demand for EU fabrics is high – it’s unstoppable,” commented Milan Fabjan, Area Sales Manager, Tekstina Fashion, Slovenia.

“Business has been surprisingly good in China in the last year, and sales figures have been up,” confirmed Alexander Rieks, Managing Director, Union Knopf (Shanghai) Ltd, Germany. “Chinese customers continue to appreciate quality and fashionable products, so there is increasing demand here.”

Demand for higher quality products from domestic buyers was also a common impression from exhibitors. “Buyers are quite demanding here and they are always looking for new and fresh offers,” explained Stanislav Cisar, Commercial Director, Mileta AS, the Czech Republic. Portuguese exhibitor Troficolor Texteis also shared this sentiment. “I am confident that our sales in China for the next season will increase because Chinese customers are demanding high-quality product nowadays,” said Flavio Dias, Export Sales Manager.
