'China needs to focus on high-tech textiles and garments'

The Chinese textile and apparel industry needs to pay attention to the development of high-tech textiles and garments, as they are expected to become the new trend of global textile industry development, according to industry experts.

During the years of global economic slowdown, the textile industry in Europe, the US, Japan and other developed economies made full use of advanced science and technology to actively develop high-tech textiles and garments with remarkable achievements.

For example, in the US, Strauss & Co introduced jeans made using micro-fibres that have perspiration decontamination capabilities. Similarly, Northface launched tech jackets, which have a small lithium battery for adjusting temperature.

Like-wise, a European firm developed special heat-resistant vests, which can reduce sweating and avoid dehydration conditions. In Japan, Fujitsu developed special fabrics containing chemicals that can help people get their daily required intake of vitamin C.

In comparison, the Chinese textile and clothing enterprises have not made enough efforts in research and development of high-tech textiles, and the number of high-tech products is relatively small. Hence, Chinese enterprises need to take measures to improve the technological content of products, to improve their international competitiveness, aver experts.

According to them, the Chinese textile and apparel industry should also increase investment in research and development of high-tech textiles, and strengthen cooperation with research institutions to jointly develop new varieties and special functional products.
