Peak national woolgrower body WoolProducers Australia acknowledged the achievements of former Australian Wool Corporation (AWC) Chief Executive Officer, Dr David Asimus AO, and extended its condolences to his family at his passing, on behalf of the wool growing community.
Dr Asimus, who was an influential wool industry figure in the 1970-80's, passed away at the age of 75 over the Australia Day long weekend.
A woolgrower himself, Dr Asimus became CEO of AWC in 1979 and was also Chairman of the International Wool Secretariat. His contribution to the Australian wool industry was recognised nationally in 1984 when he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia.
Dr Asimus held important positions in the business community, including as a director of high profile companies such as Rural Press, Wesfarmers and BHP.
Dr Asimus was the first chancellor of Charles Sturt University, which grew to become one of the largest universities in Australia during his tenure.
Through a family business, Dr Asimus remained a woolgrower after his retirement.
