Traditional embroidery and handicrafts of Baluchistan received its due appreciation at the two day long exhibition which successfully came to an end yesterday in Quetta. The organizers of the event were Aik Hunar Aik Nagar(AHAN) and Catholic Relief Services(CRS).
The organizers purpose was to bring the wonderfully crafted pieces of Baluchistani women to city based wider audience. The embroidery done on shawls, dress materials, bed sheets along with home décor items got great response for the onlookers. The craft of Khamak, Chorma and Killiam was a treat of the visitors.
During the inaugural function Muhammad Tahir Malik, regional coordinator of One Village and One Product Project, said that the aim of AHAN and CRS is to provide technical, marketing and management training to rural Self Help Groups. This in turn will help them generate income.
The success of the project can be seen by the fact that till date ten groups of women have profited from it, consequently helping them become economically independent.
