London-based New World Fashion Group (NWF), has signed a MOU with Tesco Retailing Group, in a bid to invest in an eco-garment project in Vietnam. The eco-garment plant, Dong Tai, located in Nam Tai industrial zone, Northern province of Hai Duong, will cost around US $200 million.
According to Pham Minh Nam, President NWF, this plant will not only manufacture eco-friendly garments, but the production process will also protect surrounding environment to the highest possible level. Dong Tai, hopes to meet new trends of global trade, as well as represent NWF's responsibility to local community of Vietnam.
The project will also include a clinic, school and plans to provide houses to workers and their families, along with waste water treatment system and solar energy facilities. Once the official operation of Dong Tai begins, around 10,000 local workers will get employment.
The group has almost ten garment plants across Vietnam, but this is its first eco-plant in the country. After completing this project in Hai Duong Province, NWF will develop such projects in other provinces also.
