RESALE for used machinery market

RESALE, which takes place from 23-25 April at Messe Karlsruhe, yet again proves its ability to open the door to new export markets. Before the last RESALE, organiser Florian Hess travelled around Albania with Frank Bassen from the German Business Club (Deutscher Wirtschaftsklub e.V.).

Hess and Bassen organised an information event in a hotel in the capital Tirana together with the local representatives of the GTZ (German Association for Technical Co-operation), the German Embassy and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Tirana. 110 entrepreneurs attended to find out more about the used machinery market and the opportunities for buying equipment at RESALE. The mission was a complete success for the trade fair, the exhibitors and the visitors: the number of visitors from Albania rose from 15 in 2006 to over 100 at RESALE 2007.

Last year, the German Business Club presented its campaign "Machines for Peace" in Tirana. For years, Bassen has been helping entrepreneurs in Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, the Ukraine, Russia and Palestine to build and expand their production. "We set up a local office after the event in Tirana. We are in contact with an Albanian investment bank, which is supported by the KfW development bank and also with a firm of lawyers and tax advisors. This helps us to give the best possible assistance to the first partnerships between companies from the EU and Albanian businesses," says Bassen.

A German-Albanian joint venture in food production has already begun and three further projects are in the planning stage.
