Pre-registration for REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) rules will start from June 2008 and in order to help the local entrepreneurs qualify the tests, the Government of Fujian Province recently provided two consecutive training sessions for free.

Over 522 employees from 308 local enterprises took part in the training. The REACH rule, which is only another foreign technology barrier for developing countries, will mainly involve textile industry among others.

According to this regulation, the advanced countries would only import 'Green Products' in the future and this indirectly goes to imply that exports from the developing countries would be restricted further.

REACH rule defines that if entrepreneurs do not register themselves between June to November 2008, their export products will not enjoy the benefits for the REACH policy that ranges from 3 to 10 years.

A major hurdle for local entrepreneurs in the way of registering for product tests, is that of funds for qualifying for REACH regulations.

However, the Government had assigned experts with the task to help local enterprises right from 2003. Infact, a special team for the purpose has also been set up and almost all of these services by the Government will be rendered free of cost.
