Sioen Industries released Trading update for first quarter 2008. At € 99.8m, consolidated sales during the past quarter were virtually unchanged compared with the same period last year (Q1 2007: € 100.2m). Group sales to the end of April were up 1.5% over the same period in 2007.

Sioen Industries consists of four divisions: Coating, Apparel, Chemicals and Industrial Applications.

COATING DIVISION - The Coating division is the group's largest division and the backbone of Sioen Industries. It is fully vertically and horizontally integrated from the extrusion of the yarns to the weaving and coating of industrial fabrics into technical textiles.

This division is growing steadily (+ 4.20% compared with 2007). Through its constant R&D efforts the group has been able to build up and maintain a technical lead in a number of key product lines. This resulted in growth for most of our product lines during the past quarter, a growth that Sioen Industries is seeking to continue for the entire year

APPAREL DIVISION - The Apparel division specializes in high technicity protective clothing. This division is strongly R&D driven and can boast over 40 years of experience in the design, production and sale of technical protective clothing.

Despite the mild winter, this division has continued to perform strongly both in its traditional product lines (technical protective clothing) and in more specialty products (firefighting, forestry, lifejackets, bulletproof vests, etc.).
