BP, one of the largest purified terephthalic acid (PTA) producers in Europe with a production capacity of one million ton per year, declared a force majeure of its Geel plant in Belgium on May 13.
Halt in production was also announced on mixed xylenes supply at the site for the production of paraxylene (PX).
The shut down had been called upon as a result of a strike posed by the workers. However, Mr Robert Wine, Official Spokes person of the company told Fibre2fashion, “Staff has restarted work and full rate of production will be achieved within next few days as the key issue has been resolved.”
A similar instance took place at Spain's Interquisa as compressor problems brought down production line in late April.
