Textile cos form SFBC for promoting eco-friendly trade

Many of the leading textile companies of Hong Kong have formed a committee named 'Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium' (SFBC), to promote environmental certification, labeling and carbon emissions trade. The founding members aspire to find new ways for making trade more eco-friendly.

The formation of the SFBC marks successful collaboration of the textile and apparel industry for tackling the issue of sustainability. SFBC intends to create a platform for improving the manufacturing processes and procedures throughout the supply chain to reduce the impact on the environment.

Experts believe that, the establishment of SFBC can surely help in strengthening the local textile and garment industry, and has the capacity to influence the rest of the world.

The Government is also giving complete support to Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium so that it can operate smoothly and successfully.

Statistics reveal that, from the total export earnings of the nation, that touched almost 42.5 billion Hong Kong dollars in 2007, garment industry made a significant contribution of 39 percent.
