bluesign technologies had the pleasure to present the bluesign award to the company Christian Eschler AG, Switzerland, on June 9, 2008. The bluesign award is only presented to companies that have completely integrated the bluesign idea as a “manufacturing rule” into their company philosophy and have successfully conducted several bluesign screenings.

The outdoor industry plays a leading role in this context. Particularly in North America brands and consumers are more and more aware of the concerns addressed by the bluesign standard.

The bluesign standard is based on five principles: resource productivity, consumer safety, air emission, water emission and occupational health and safety. It gives suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, brands and consumers the good feeling of having done everything possible for the environment, health and safety.

“Eschler sees the bluesign standard as a sustainable company philosophy” says Peter Eschler of Christian Eschler AG. “As one of the first bluesign system partners we have committed ourselves already years ago to implementing the recommendations and requirements of the bluesign initial screening in our factory. Already after the first implementation phase we were able to certify numerous products with the “bluesign approved fabric” label.

Today, two bluesign re-screenings later, about 90 % of all Eschler products are certified with the “bluesign approved fabric” label. Additionally, the bluesign screenings allowed us to make distinct progress in the reduction of our resource usage such as energy and water. Today we're in a position to say that Eschler uses exclusively 'Best Available Technology'”.

Peter Waeber, CEO of bluesign technologies ag says: “Christian Eschler AG worked with bluesign technologies early on and is a manufacturer who implemented the requirements and recommendations of the bluesign standard excellently. This particularly shows in a successful reduction of resource usage. bluesign technologies only benefits from manufacturers who are strongly dedicated to reducing the ecological footprint and acting sustainably."

"For Alex and Peter Eschler there was never a doubt to lead the company into a sustainable future. They communicated their conviction to have made the right decision with the bluesign standard actively from day one. I congratulate Christian Eschler AG on receiving this award and wish the company all the best for the future.”

Ever since its foundation in 1927, Christian Eschler AG has concentrated on knit fabrics. Over the years, this classic jersey manufacturer has grown into a highly innovative textile firm that currently develops specialities in four areas: fabrics for active sportswear, workwear, technical textiles and sophisticated basic fabrics for embroideries and lingerie. Indeed, some of these products are unequalled anywhere in the world.
