Chemical fiber output slows down in May

Statistics showed that in April this year chemical fiber output in China marked considerable growth and showed a bullish trend.

However, National Bureau of Statistics reports that in May 2008 the industry's production slowed down 4.75 percent from that in April.

In May, China achieved over 2.09 million tons of chemical fiber output, 104,300 tons less than the previous month, but recording a year-on-year growth of 2.49 percent.

During January-May period, total chemical fiber production in the country reached 10.069 million tons, representing a rise of 7.37 percent over the same period of 2007.

Industry in Zhejiang Province registered 911,200 tons of output in the fifth month, up 3.12 percent from April, and accounting for 43.59 percent of the total production. This was the only province that realized an increase among all key chemical fiber producing regions of China.

Production of Jiangsu Province indicated 713,900 tons, down 12.79 percent from April, forming a share of 34.15 percent.

Output of Fujian in May stood at 110,200 tons, a drop of 1.18 percent from the previous month, and accomplishing a share of 5.27 percent.

In the first five months, chemical fiber output from Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Fujian provinces touched 4.2477 million tons, 3.365 million tons and 550,900 tons, respectively. This represented an year-on-year boost of 11.33, 10.45 and 8.56 percent, forming a share of 42.30, 33.51 and 5.49 percent.

During the period Shandong ranked fourth with year-on-year growth of 3.13 percent, while Henan took the fifth spot, even though its output slid 11.62 percent from the same time last year.
