This years' summer festivity has been accompanied by an exciting handicraft market which was inaugurated last week in downtown Balad area to add a flavor of nostalgia to this historical city.
The market, organized by the Tourism and Culture department of Jeddah Municipality, has stalls lined up selling local handicrafts and a number of other traditional goods to renew the spirit of the old city. The main idea behind setting up this handicraft bazaar is to promote traditional crafts and skills which are becoming obsolete with the advent of modernization.
Owner of rare and traditional goods are also participating in the market to display their unique possessions to the visitors. Women participants are exhibiting a variety of traditional clothes and jewelry belonging to different parts of the kingdom. Additionally, as the evening comes alive, traditional clothes shows, cultural music and dances and a number of other activities are being arranged for attracting visitors.
In fact, the Tourism and Culture Department is offering a free stall for anyone interested in exhibiting and selling their traditional Saudi handicrafts and cultural goods. The market is already garnering a good response from the visitors and will remain open until the beginning of Ramadan.
