The China Textile Industry Association recently released a report according to which in the period between January and July, the output of most categories of textile products of the best performing enterprises, maintained a continuous growth momentum. However, the growth rate dropped significantly in comparison to the same period last year.
Production of chemical fiber, cloth, garments and some other major products showed a single digit growth which has rarely been recorded in recent years.
Weak demand from the downstream units had an impact on the output of chemical fiber products which increased by only 4.76 percent, down by 13.23 points from the growth rate registered in the corresponding period last year. In fact, it was the lowest point in production growth rate since March 2006.
Fluctuation in the growth of yarn output was also in line with chemical fiber products. Despite a double digit growth rate of 10.78 percent in January-July 2008, yarn production was down 9.41 percentage points when compared to the previous year.
Even cloth production recorded a slow growth in the first 7 months of this year with growth rate falling by 7.15 percent from the same time last year.
