The General Industrial Production Index (IPI) experienced a -9.5% variation in June 2008, in comparison with the same month of the previous year.
After adjusting for calendar effects, the interannual rate of the IPI was estimated at -9.0%. By economic destination of the goods, the variation rates with respect to the same month from the previous year were -9.6% for consumer goods (-21.1% for durable consumer goods and -7.4% for non-durable consumer goods), -10.8% for capital goods, -12.6% for intermediate goods and 1.8% for energy.
After adjusting for calendar effects, these interannual rates were estimated at -8.9% for consumer goods (-20.2% for durable consumer goods and -6.7% for non-durable consumer goods), -10.2% for capital goods, -11.9% for intermediate goods and 2.1% for energy.
The average rate of the IPI adjusted for calendar effects decreases 2.8% in the first six months of 2008. The average IPI rate stood at -3.1% in the first six months of 2008, as compared with the same period of 2007. After adjusting for calendar effects, this average rate stood at -2.8%.
The evolution of the average industrial production rate, by economic destination of the goods,was -3.6% for consumer goods (-9.2% for durable consumer goods and -2.6% for non-durable consumer goods), -1.0% for capital goods, -6.1% for intermediate goods and 3.5% for energy.
After adjusting for calendar effects, these average rates for the first six months stood at - 3.2% for consumer goods (-8.8% for durable consumer goods and -2.2% for non-durable consumer goods), -0.7% for capital goods, -5.7% for intermediate goods and 3.7% for energy.
The activities with the greatest average increases during the period of January-June 2008 were Manufacture of radio, television and communications equipment and apparatus, with 1.2% and Manufacture of other transport equipment, with 8.6%. In contrast, those with the least growth were Manufacture of office machinery and computers,with -26.1%, and Manufacture of wood and cork products, except furniture; manufacture straw articles and plaiting materials, with -16.6%.
