Handicrafts made in rural areas of India have a tradition going back by centuries. It was one of the means of earning livelihood for village and townsfolk. But with the anvil of products made from chic plastic and artificial ware, these artisans are facing tough times.
Now on the recurring demand from artisans of Himachal Pradesh to be provided space to market and sell their products, the Handloom and Extension Service Centre and the Handicrafts and Development Commission is providing an opportunity to these rural artisans to showcase their products at the Delhi-Haat.
The artisans have been asked to send their applications, the requests for which would be entertained as per the rules and regulations governing the Haat. The artisans should be registered with the handloom and handicrafts office and should not have vended their goods at the Haat in the preceding six months.
The Delhi-Haat will provide ample opportunity to these handicraft workers to display and sell their wares to an even bigger customer base which includes the large local population of the capital and the huge number of domestic and international tourists visiting the capital city.
