Taekwang Industrial Co Ltd, one of leaders in the Korean textile industries, that contributed much to the rapid growth of Korean economy, has decided to extend the shutdown of its Ulsan acrylonitrile (ACN) plant.
Plant was shut down on October 6 for turnaround and was scheduled to restart on November 3; but now, on the back of financial turmoil, this has been postponed by a couple of weeks, informed Company sources to Fibre2fashion.
Total annual capacity of the ACN plant is around 250,000 Mt per year. Due to recent plunge in propylene prices, acrylonitrile demand in the market has plunged. Right now the market is going through no supply - no demand situation.
