A handicrafts expo titled `Indian Handicraft Expo' is being held at Kanpur, in Uttar Pradesh, drawing vast crowds to the exotic products on display at the fair. Artisans from across India are taking displaying their crafts.

On display are cloth paintings from Orissa, which are exported to different countries worldwide and cloth covers from the state of West Bengal to retain the freshness of the Indian roti, an alternative to the casserole used in urban Indian homes.

The enthusiastic visitors and lovers of handicrafts are put off by the exorbitant price of the products on display which is leading to low sales at the fair. The artisans however, are defending the prices due to the labour and material that goes in to making the products.

According to craftsmen from Orissa, who specialize in making the famous cloth paintings, the colours used are natural colours. For example, according to them white colour is got from crushing seas shells and black by burning soot inside coconut fibres.
