Rex W. Tillerson, chairman and chief executive officer of Exxon Mobil Corporation, today presented Vogel Alcove with a $50,000 grant in support of their work with homeless infants, toddlers and preschool children. Vogel Alcove is the third nonprofit organization to receive Tillerson's annual Chairman's Gift.

Tillerson established the Chairman's Gift in 2006 in order to provide a local nonprofit organization with a donation during the holiday season. Since the gift's inception, ExxonMobil has selected St. Philip's School and Community Center, Lena Pope Home and Vogel Alcove as recipients.

While personally delivering the check to Alan Perkins, board chairman of Vogel Alcove, Tillerson and ExxonMobil attendees enjoyed a short selection of songs sung by preschool children at the facility. Following the singing, Tillerson toured the grounds at Vogel Alcove along with ExxonMobil employees and members of the Vogel Alcove board.

“Vogel Alcove plays a vital role in serving our community, and we are pleased to present them with the Chairman's Gift this year,” Tillerson said. “ExxonMobil is committed to supporting organizations that work to encourage youth as they grow, and we are excited to join Vogel Alcove in its mission of offering a haven for homeless children to receive unique opportunities in education and development.”

Since 1985, Vogel Alcove has served the homeless community by providing childcare services to those in need. Today, the organization seeks to work with children during their developmental years and to serve their families during their homelessness. To achieve their mission, Vogel Alcove provides high quality, free childcare, developmental services and comprehensive social services.

“We are proud to partner with a corporation that is so invested in the community, and thanks to ExxonMobil, we are starting 2009 on the right note,” said Barbara Landix, executive director of Vogel Alcove. “Our goal is to provide children with an opportunity for a better, healthier life free from homelessness, and ExxonMobil's generous gift enables us to continue achieving that goal with a growing number of children and families.”

ExxonMobil has a longstanding relationship with Vogel Alcove. In addition to the selection as this year's Chairman's Gift recipient, ExxonMobil has provided the nonprofit with a variety of grants totaling more than $450,000 in the past.
