Slowdown in growth rates of T&G sector in 2008

China's national yarn production reached 1,860,000 tons in December, a year-on-year increase of 2.6 percent, but annual growth rate fell 10.8 percentage points. The total production for the full year of 2008 stood at 21.49 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.1 percent, against 14.9 percent achieved in 2007.

As of end of December, China's annual cotton yarn output in 2008 amounted to 7.51 million tons, up 4.8 percent year-on-year, but growth rate fell 7.4 percent. China's textile and apparel exports registered US $16.07 billion in December, a year-on-year increase of 10.1 percent, with the annual growth rate rising by 0.8 percent.

China's textile and apparel exports recorded $185.2 billion in 2008, a year-on-year increase of 8.2 percent, though annual growth rate fell by 10.7 percent. As of December, annual cotton textile and apparel export totaled $66.25 billion in 2008, a year-on-year increase of 6.5 percent, but y-o-y growth rate fell 11.7 percent.
